PTSD

A little about this painting…....
The eyes show me looking out from a chaotic landscape. In the landscape are bright, vivid colours which expresses how raw my nerves are and how sensitive they are to stimulation around me. With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder I see every movement and hear every sound.

One of the most significant parts of this painting is the third eye. One might think of mystical symbolism but the eye is placed as a barrier between me and the person I’m speaking with. That eye “watches” for signs of threat which would then cue me to kick into survival mode and talk my way out of danger. This is something I learned when I needed to learn it but it does not serve me well now. The “third eye” therefore represents hesitation, mistrust and falsified ease.

Last but not least there are several stunted trees and several outlines of eyes growing from flower branches. You will see lighting, flowing rivers, rolling hills and mist all coming together to form the painting “PTSD”.
